Location:San Francisco, California Client: McCaffery Interests
Project description: Antunovich Associates and McCaffery Interests saved and redeveloped this historic structure. This grand property, located on the edge of Union Square in San Francisco, had fallen into disrepair and had laid vacant for several years. The Antunovich-McCaffery team reimagined the project for high-end, pedestrian friendly retail. The entire interior was completely gutted, seismic reinforcing was added, and the exterior facades painstakingly repaired and revitalized. A new street level storefront, that responded to each of the retail tenants, was added and with that, retail tenants moved in. This completely refurbished gem that anchors the north east corner of Union Square became home to The Disney Store, Borders Books and Music, and Morton’s Steakhouse. Returning this historic structure to its prominence on Union Square took only eighteen months.
